We all need to feel significant... but the opposite of significance is connection.
So there’s this internal conflict we have right... We want to feel significant, look how great I am... But we also want to feel connected, which is like look how great you are.
There are times in our lives where we need to grow. You go to school, you’re growing. When you are starting a new career, you’re in a growth phase. There is a time in your life when growth is super important. But eventually, you start to grow and some people get stuck in this learning loop. They study and they love to learn and they grow, grow, grow but they never transition to the next phase which is a contribution.
When you’re going through this growth phase, you’re trying to become something... Yes, it’s necessary because as you grow. You become something more than you are now. But eventually, if you just keep growing, the only person that benefits is you, which is kind of a selfish when you think about it.
